When it comes to carving out a life marked by success – you need your brain to do more than just get by. You need optimal performance. When your brain is functioning at its best, you feel like you can do just about anything.*
When you lack optimal brain function, it can feel like the world is crashing down around you. As your brain fails you, your confidence goes as well. You wonder if you’ll ever be able to do the things you used to take for granted. Let alone meet daily challenges. Your brain is on fire – literally. It is one of the hottest spots in your body. It burns through more calories each day than any other part of your body. To keep humming, it constantly sucks up nutrients, turning them into brain material – neurons, the fatty case that shields them and neurotransmitters.*
Bell Lifestyle’s Brain Function gives you nutrition for brain health today and well into the future. It gives your brain the optimal amounts of key nutrients it needs to run at its best.*

Ingredients: Rosemary extract (leaf), Ginkgo biloba extract (leaf), L-Glutamine, Lecithin (from glycine max seed), Magnesium, DMG (Dimethylglycine), Huperzine extract (whole plant), Vitamin B12, Folic acid (folate).

L-Glutamine
Remember how we mentioned that your brain burns through calories like a raging bushfire? Because of this, you need as much of the amino acid glutamine as you can get.*
Glutamine is fuel for your brain, supporting mental function by feeding your brain high quality food. One of your body’s most abundant amino acids, it’s used in more metabolic processes than any other amino acid. With your brain’s manic metabolism, you can see why you need so much glutamine to stay sharp.*
But glutamine doesn’t only act as a building block. It also protects your brain. By burning through all that fuel, your brain also produces lots of free radicals. A precursor to the powerful antioxidant glutathione, glutamine has been shown in laboratory studies to protect neurons and keep them functioning and whole.*

Rosemary
Sprigs of rosemary have long been used as a symbol of healthy brain aging – and for good reason. For a long time, elders have used rosemary as a tonic. Now science confirms this use as we age.*
One randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study involving 28 adults of an average of 75 years found that rosemary made a difference in cognitive function. However, the researchers warned that if you go to extremely high doses (around 6000 mg), it can have the opposite effect.*
Even smelling it has an effect. In another study, simply by smelling essence of rosemary participants experienced cognitive improvement. However, don’t worry if you’re not inhaling its fragrance, researchers measured its effects by looking for the compound from rosemary, 1,8-cineole in the blood. Research indicates that rosemary also promotes healthy acetylcholinesterase levels.*

Magnesium
Some nutrition experts call magnesium the “energy” mineral. It’s responsible for more than 300 enzyme reactions in your body and is found in every inch of tissue. But the highest concentrations are found in your bones, muscles . . . and your brain.*

Dimethyglycine (DMG)
This mysterious nutrient is found in pumpkin seeds, brown rice, nuts, seeds and brewer’s yeast. Our body also makes it but it only lasts for seconds at a time in very small amounts.*
DMG seems to be particularly helpful for brain health because it donates what’s called methyl groups. These special groups are used in the process of methylation which transforms chemicals in the brain. In essence they act as critical junctions in various brain processes.*
DMG is special because it has not just one, but two different methyl groups. It’s used in the building of such critical brain chemicals as choline, SAM-e, methionine, hormones, neurotransmitters and DNA.*

Folic Acid (Folate)
Folic acid is another methyl donor. You’ll see folic acid added to white flour, cereals, white rice and more. This drastic measure was taken since folic acid ensures the healthy development of the spinal cord and brain in developing fetuses.*
It also seems that folic acid is essential for oxygen delivery for the brain. For the hungry brain with a raging metabolism, having enough oxygen is critical. While folic acid on its own hasn’t been shown to make a huge difference in brain health for older people, when combined with cholinesterase inhibitors – like huperzine and rosemary – it makes a significant difference in their effect on brain health.*
